Shabbat Shalom!
This Shabbat, we start reading the Torah from the very beginning again. We feel that familiar excitement as we turn to Bereishit.
We go back to the source: the six days of Creation and the day of rest, Shabbat. We see the creation of people and the world, the sin with the Tree of Knowledge, and the sad story of Cain and Abel. This tragedy shows how quick, harmful actions come from short feelings of jealousy and rivalry.
The portion tells about the first generations who had so many blessings and lived long lives. Yet, they chose to forget where their blessings came from, to cut off their connection to the source of life and light. This led to the Flood, but we’ll read about the full results of that disconnect next week.
In its heart, Parashat Bereishit is a model for our own lives:
If we lose our thankfulness (gratitude), we will lose our direction.
If we protect the Shabbat, the Shabbat will protect us.
And only if we clean our hearts of jealousy, hate, and the need to compete, will we be able to hear the song of Creation again! We will hear our inner voice the real, Divine goodness that lives inside us.
May we all have a Shabbat of Blessed Beginnings.

שבת שלום!
השבת, אנו פותחים מחדש את ספר התורה, ועיני כולנו נשואות אל הבראשית.
אנו חוזרים להתחלה, אל המקור: אל ששת ימי הבריאה ויום המנוחה, יום השבת. אנו חוזים בבריאת האדם והעולם, בחטא עץ הדעת, ובטרגדיה של קין והבל, שבה פגיעה נובעת מתחושת רגעית של קנאה ותחרות.
הפרשה מתארת דורות קדמונים שזכו לטוב עצום ולחיים ארוכים, אך בחרו לשכוח את מקור הברכה, להתנתק ממקור החיים והאור. התוצאה הייתה מבול, אך את השלכותיו נקרא בפרשה הבאה.
פרשת בראשית היא למעשה אב טיפוס לחיינו שלנו:
אם נאבד את הכרת הטוב, נלך לאיבוד.
אם נשמור שבת, השבת תשמור עלינו.
ורק אם ננקה את הלב שלנו מקנאה, שנאה ותחרות, נוכל לשוב ולשמוע את מנגינת הבריאה! נוכל לשמוע את קולנו הפנימי, את הטוב האמיתי והאלוקי שקיים בתוכנו.
מי ייתן ונזכה לשבת של התחלה מבורכת לכולנו.
