Shabbat Shalom, dear community!
This Shabbat, we read Parshat Pinchas. We encounter Pinchas, who fights a spiritual battle for the Jewish people against a mob consumed by a desire for evil and depravity. His daring act clearly defines true Israeli identity.
All of this happens right before the entry into the Land of Israel.
There, we also meet the daughters of Tzelofchad, who yearn for a connection to the land and receive a surprising positive response.
We also see Moshe Rabbeinu, who asks God for a leader for the people and discovers that the worthy treasure – Joshua – had been by his side all along. And he prepares the nation for life in the land with the commandments of the holidays and festivals to come.
This Shabbat is Shabbat Mevarchim. We read the first Haftarah of the “Three Weeks” (between the 17th of Tammuz and Tisha B’Av) from Jeremiah, as he tries to awaken the people of Israel.
May we all learn from the strength and deep love for the Torah, Israel, and Am Israel that these people showed in their lives.

שבת שלום קהילה יקרה!
השבת פרשת פנחס אנו פוגשים את פנחס, שלוחם את מלחמת הרוח היהודית מול המון נגוע בתשוקה לרוע וכיעור.
מעשהו הנועז מציב קו ברור של זהות ישראלית אמיתית.
כל זה קורה ממש בישורת האחרונה לפני הכניסה לארץ ושם אנו פוגשים גם את בנות צלפחד, צמאות לשייכות בארץ, ונענות בחיוב מפתיע.
את משה, שמבקש מה’ מנהיג לעם, ומגלה שהאוצר הראוי – יהושע – היה לצידו כל הזמן.
ומכין את העם לחיים בארץ – עם מצוות המועדים והחגים שיבואו.

אנו קוראים בהפטרה הראשונה של שבועות בין המצרים את דברי ירמיהו בדרכו לעורר את בני ישראל.
מי ייתן ונלמד מהדמויות הללו את אהבתם העמוקה לתורה, לארץ ישראל ולעם ישראל.
