Lag Ba’Omer 5781 – Responding to Tragedy

Dear Friends,

There are no words to describe the devastating tragedy that happened last night in Har Meron on the holy day of Lag Ba’Omer.

All of Klal Yisrael is numb with shock. So many deaths, so many injuries, so many broken hearts. The pain is unbearable.

אני מאמין באמונה שלמה בביאת המשיח – As multitudes of people sang together in unison moments before the tragedy.

נסתרות דרכי ה׳ – It is impossible for man, a finite creature, to comprehend the reasons of the infinite Creator.

At this time, when we are united as one through our grief and tears, let us all rededicate ourselves to the foundation principle of Ahavat Yisrael, the love of our fellow Jew.

We are all brothers & sisters, beloved children of Hashem. Indeed as we learn from Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai’s revered teacher, Rabbi Akiva, that we must be
נוהג כבוד זה לזה, treat one another with honour, respect and love.

On this holy day, let us pour our hearts out to the great Healer of Broken Hearts. May He bring comfort to the bereaved, healing to the injured, and mercy to the entire Jewish People.

Please join us today at 7 pm via zoom for Kabbalat Shabbat and say two chapters of Tehilim for all those injured to merit a speedy recovery. And in memory of all those that tragically lost their lives, may their memories be a blessing.

הוא ימליץ טוב בעדנו, אדונינו בר יוחאי
In these trying times, may the merit of the saintly Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai stand for all of us.

Shabbat Shalom,
Rabbi Shlomo Gabay
