Shabbat Shalom and Hag Sameach!
The Eternal Covenant and Universal Responsibility
This Shabbat, Shabbat Chol HaMoed Sukkot, we have a unique Torah reading that weaves together deep, powerful messages. In the first seven Aliyot we read from Parashat Ki Tisa (Exodus 33:12 – 34:26), and the Maftir focuses on the holiday korbanot (offerings) from the Book of Numbers.
Ki Tisa: This section focuses on the renewal of the covenant after the Sin of the Golden Calf. Despite the failure, Moshe Rabbeinu prayed, and Hashem revealed the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy, establishing a new covenant that assures the eternity of Am Yisrael and its status as the chosen nation. This is a profound lesson in the power of Teshuva (repentance) – there’s always a way back, and God’s love is unwavering.
The Sukkot Offerings: The Maftir details the special Musaf offerings for the holiday, highlighting the seventy bulls sacrificed over the seven days. Our Sages teach that these bulls are brought on behalf of the seventy nations of the world. This is a powerful ethical principle: precisely at the peak of our personal joy in the Sukkah, we embrace a universal responsibility for all of humanity.
The Haftarah of Redemption and Hope
The Haftarah, from the prophet Ezekiel (38:18 – 39:16), speaks about the future War of Gog and Magog and the ultimate Redemption. Sukkot is Chag HaAsif (the Festival of Ingathering), a time when judgment for the new year concludes. This prophecy of Redemption, read as winter approaches, reminds us that all global struggles will cease, and an era of complete peace and security awaits. It is a message of unending hope that accompanies our days of joy.
No Lulav Shaking: It’s important to remember that the mitzvah of the Four Species (Lulav and Etrog) is not performed on Shabbat due to the prohibition of carrying (muktzah), but the mitzvah of the Sukkah is observed as usual. Dwelling in the Sukkah makes this Shabbat especially festive.
May we merit a Shabbat filled with spiritual elevation (She’ar Ruach), where we connect the joy of the holiday with our global responsibility, and always remember the eternal covenant. And may we merit to see all the hostages return alive and whole, swiftly, with God’s help!

שבת שלום וחג שמח!
פרשת הברית הנצחית והאחריות העולמית
השבת, בשבת חול המועד סוכות, אנו קוראים קריאה מיוחדת בתורה, המשלבת מסרים עמוקים: בשבע העליות נקרא חלק מפרשת כי תשא (שמות לג: יב – לד: כו), ובהמשך במפטיר נקרא על קרבנות החג שבספר במדבר.
כי תשא: הפרשה עוסקת בהתחדשות הברית לאחר חטא העגל. למרות הכישלון, משה רבינו התחנן, והקב”ה גילה את י”ג מידות הרחמים וכרת ברית מחודשת, המבטיחה את נצחיותו של עם ישראל ואת מעמדו כעם נבחר. זהו שיעור בכוחה של תשובה – תמיד יש דרך חזרה, ואהבת ה’ אינה פוסקת.
קרבנות הסוכות: במפטיר אנו קוראים על קרבנות המוסף המיוחדים לחג, ובמרכזם שבעים הפרים שהוקרבו במשך ימי החג. חז”ל מלמדים אותנו כי פרים אלו מוקרבים ככפרה וכאחריות על שבעים אומות העולם. זהו יסוד מוסרי עוצמתי: דווקא בשיא שמחתנו האישית בסוכה, אנו מתמלאים באחריות אוניברסלית על כלל האנושות.
הפטרת הגאולה והתקווה
ההפטרה, מספר יחזקאל (לח: יח – לט: טז), עוסקת במלחמת גוג ומגוג ובגאולה העתידה לבוא. סוכות הוא “חג האסיף”, זמן בו נגמרים הדינים לשנה החדשה. נבואת הגאולה הזו, הנקראת על סף החורף, מזכירה לנו כי כל הצרות והמאבקים בעולם יסתיימו, וכי תקופת שלום וביטחון מוחלטת בפתח. זהו מסר של תקווה בלתי נגמרת המלווה אותנו בתוך ימי השמחה.
לשבת אין נענועים: חשוב לזכור, שמצוות ארבעת המינים אינה נוהגת בשבת מחשש טלטול, אך מצוות הסוכה מתקיימת כהלכתה. הישיבה בסוכה הופכת את השבת לחגיגית במיוחד.
מי ייתן ונזכה לשבת מלאה בשאר רוח, שבה נחבר בין שמחת החג לאחריות הכללית, וניזכר תמיד בברית הנצחית. וכן שנזכה לראות את כל החטופים חוזרים חיים ושלמים במהרה, בעזרת השם!
